RNP's CEO, Nelson Simões, received a plaque in honor of his contribution to the academic community during the opening of the 42nd Brazilian Symposium on Computer Networks and Distributed Systems (SBRC 2024), on the evening of May 21.

At the ceremony, the director of RNP highlighted the importance of the involvement of the teaching and research community in the development of the organization throughout its 35 years of existence and its pioneering work in Brazil and the world. "RNP was a project in 1989 and the board said that we had to develop a relationship with the research and development community. The idea arose that we would have an initiative different from all the others", he said. "I can only thank this community. To this day, we continue to produce important results for us, for each researcher. I thank the SBC and also the friends who show the value of Brazil's capacity and competence in networks".

SBRC is an annual event held by SBC and the Computer Networks Laboratory (LARC). The 42nd edition takes place until May 24th, in Niterói (RJ), on the Praia Vermelha campus, at the Institute of Computing of the Fluminense Federal University (UFF).
