RNP presents projects and new partnerships at the 11th Meeting with Suppliers
RNP will hold the 2024 Supplier and Partner Meeting on March 12 in Campinas, in the interior of São Paulo. With the theme "Innovating to accelerate and connect", the 11th edition of the event will have the general director of the National Center for Materials Research (CNPEM), Antônio José Roque da Silva, as a guest speaker. He will talk about possible partnerships with the Orion laboratory, a maximum biosafety complex (NB4) that will be built next to the Brazilian particle accelerator, Sirius – and which will have data connection provided by RNP.
The event will be held from 9 am to 6 pm at the Hotel Premium Campinas (SP). The goal is to strengthen relationships between suppliers and partners of RNP, a group that includes internet providers, telecommunications operators and technology and innovation companies. The meeting will enable the generation of new business opportunities. The organization's bets for this year and in the medium and long term will also be presented.
Among the highlights of the program are presentations on technology projects that will be implemented with the new Growth Acceleration Project (PAC), within the Conecta e Capacita Program (from the federal government and strategic programs, such as Internet Brasil, an initiative of the Ministry of Communications (MCom) that distributes free internet chips to students in the public school system.
The event will also feature a space to present new developments from OpenRAN@Brasil, an RNP initiative that aims to support the development of 5G technology in the country in a secure manner and guarantee democratic access to the network. The event will be broadcast live for registrants via this link.
Orion will enable better research into medicines and vaccines
The Orion laboratory, part of the new PAC, will be the first biosafety unit with an NB4 classification in all of Latin America – the highest level of biological containment, recommended for the treatment of exotic agents that have a high risk of fatal contamination to individuals, in addition to a high potential for airborne transmission. The project has a unique feature compared to the other 60 facilities of this type in the world: this will be the first NB4 laboratory to be connected to a synchrotron light source – the Sirius particle accelerator.
The resources provisioned for the construction of the complex amount to R$1 billion. The laboratory will allow research into biological agents such as viruses and bacteria and the development of medicines and vaccines. Data from the security unit will be accessible to researchers from all over the world through a high-speed connection that will be provided by RNP.
