2000
Official inauguration
RNP internet network, called Backbone RNP2, is officially inaugurated, with capacity of 200 Mb/s and more than 11 thousand research groups benefited.
2002
Social organization
RNP Association is qualified by the federal government as a Social Organization.

Social Organization National Network for Education and Research (RNP/OS) signs management contract with MCT for the promotion of technological research activities in development networks and the operation of advanced network means and services that benefit national research and education.
2005
New RNP
The initiative to improve the network infrastructure at national, metropolitan and local levels, i.e. in campus, was called New RNP; to meet the demands of specific communities, such as telemedicine, biodiversity, astronomy, etc. with innovative applications and services; and to promote the training of human resources in ICT.
Rede Ipê appears
Year when Rede Ipê was launched with optical links and wavelength technology, operating at multiple gigabits per second.
Redecomep appears
NP begins the construction of its own metropolitan optic fiber networks to provide access between each Point of Presence (PoP) and the campuses of the user organizations in the same city by means of the Community Education and Research Networks Program (Redecomep).

2010
1st big jump of Rede Ipê
Beginning of the sixth generation of Rede Ipê with capacity increased by 280%, which raised it to the level of the most advanced academic networks in the world. Expansion of Redecomep
Redecomep Program expands its operations in almost 40 cities in the country.
2016
Gigatization
All RNP Points of Presence (PoPs) are now served at Gb/s capacity. Thus, we celebrate the complete “gigatization” of our network.
2017
