International Collaborations
We are connected to other international academic networks, with direct connections to South America and the United States.
We have a prominent role in the Latin American Advanced Network Cooperation (RedCLARA), where our network connects to 10 other Latin American countries and the European Géant network.
We are connected to the United States at high speed by the Amlight consortium. These connections provide access to the US academic networks, which connect us to other international networks and the worldwide business internet.
The initiative is building the first direct connection between Latin America and Europe and will meet the needs of the education and research communities in both regions for the next 25 years. Most land connections pass through the Brazilian territory.
Global Research Activities
GLIF - Global Lambda Integrated Facility
Since 2008, we integrate the Global Lambda Integrated Facility (Glif), international collaboration between education and research networks that share resources to interconnect advanced networks in different countries, supporting scientific applications that demand high data transmission.
Use Case
In 2014, RNP collaborated with Japanese public television company NHK and telecommunication operator NTT, which broadcasted live Super Hi Vision (8K) footage of nine matches from the World Cup in Brazil to four cities in Japan. The transmission used resources from our network and other academic networks in Latin America, the United States, and Japan.
