New challenges in the face of mobility

The challenges in the use of mobile technologies for science, education, health, culture and defense shall be at the center of the debate, in the 2015 RNP Forum, which takes place on August 25 and 27, in Brasília. Organized parallel to each other, the presentations will touch upon matters connected to the areas, from the point of view of Brazilian and international lecturers, including the senior researcher of North American institution EDUCAUSE, Christopher Brooks, and representatives from the University of São Paulo (USP), from the Lemann Foundation and from the Federal Budget Oversight Board (TCU).

Representing EDUCAUSE, a North American community of higher education organizations working towards the advancement of learning by means of IT innovations, researcher Christopher Brooks shall explain his viewpoint on the main paradigms of incorporating mobility into teaching. Considered to be one of the main investigators of a series of research projects of ECAR, which produces researches and analytical reports used to forecast, plan and use trends of all Information Technology (IT) in higher education, Brooks is betting on the technological innovation as a catalyst for the discovery of new approaches to learning.

A lawyer specialized in Digital Law, Patrícia Peck, will give a lecture about the potential and risks inherent to the increase of the use of the resources within the teaching and learning context, providing examples of the effects of mobility on the educational environment. Having worked in teaching institutions since 2005, Peck will make forecasts about the adjustments needed to adapt the new relationships to the technological reality imposed to the academic world, including the need for more specific clauses regarding the privilege and confidentiality duties.

USP is the first Brazilian institution to intensively and institutionally use a cloud computing system, and its case study will be the basis for the debate on the future of cloud computing in the presentation guided by the institution’s IT director, Cyrano Rizzo. In charge of the installation of the first university cloud in Latin America, and the first one in Brazil within the academic segment, he will touch upon the feasibility of cloud computing, in addition to the advantages and challenges of adapting to the change of paradigm in the Brazilian universities, having as reference the experience implemented in USP, one of the most prestigious universities in the world.

Held by the Brazilian National Research and Educational Network (Rede Nacional de Ensino e Pesquisa - RNP), the 2015 RNP Forum will take place between August 25 and 27, in Brasília, and it is open to the public, upon registration. During the three-day event, in addition to the above, matters such as governance and leadership, ICT operation, identity management, networks and new technologies, security and privacy, telehealth and telemedicine, e-Science, technologies applied to education, culture and defense shall be touched upon, the target audience being ICT professionals and suppliers, research project coordinators, deans and heads of universities, in addition to public managers.
