There are people who impact lives. And there are those who leave traces, a legacy, for an entire community. It is with the regret of those who say goodbye to one of these personalities that RNP says goodbye today to its advisor Fabíola Gonçalves Pereira Greve.  

A prominent researcher, member of the RNP Board of Directors (CADM) and member of the Brazilian Computing Society, Fabíola joined the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) as a professor in 1992 and, in 2018, reached the status of full professor.

She was a supporter of the creation of the Computing Institute, of which she was the first director. She founded and led the Algorithms and Distributed Computing Group (Gaudì), which was dedicated to studying models, protocols and techniques for developing reliable distributed systems and applications. It was one of the main national references in the area of blockchain, a technology that has revolutionized banking transactions and the industrial, health and services sectors.

Recently, her contribution and leadership were fundamental in the formulation of the Ilíada project, which aims to promote research and technological development actions in blockchain. “Fabíola collaborated with RNP in several activities. Since 2020, she has coordinated the Blockchain Technical Committee. And she was fundamental in the construction of Ilíada, having proposed the creation of the national blockchain observatory, one of the project's deliverables. There were years of cooperation in Research, Development and Innovation and we are very grateful to her for that”, highlighted the director of PDI, Iara Machado.

“Fabíola was a strong woman, a trailblazer in the technology area in Brazil. It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to this researcher who was so active in the area of networks and also a present and zealous advisor. We hope that her legacy will be permanent at UFBA and we wish peace and comfort to her two daughters, friends and family in this moment of sadness”, says the general director of RNP, Nelson Simões.
