During the signing of a Technical Cooperation Agreement between RNP and the Hydro Electric Company of São Francisco (Chesf) for fiber optic sharing throughout the Northeast region, the Minister of Education, Mendonça Filho, stated that, in 2016, the financial resources from MEC to RNP added up to 98 million and the next installment will be paid in October.

The ceremony took place at the offices of Chesf, in Recife, to officiate the partnership that will accelerate the provision of advanced optical infrastructure for education. At the ceremony, the Minister said that this action will benefit high-speed internet access of the academic community, including research centers, universities, institutes of higher education, hospitals, universities and technological education centers.

With the Agreement, students, teachers and researchers shall benefit, as well as administrative federal network servers. About 42 million Brazilian reais will be invested, expanding the infrastructure provided at no charge by Chesf and avoiding annual costs of 24 million Brazilian reais.
