Internet Brasil Program receives award for best Citizen IT Initiative
RNP received the award for the best " Citizen IT Initiative of 2023", given by HDI Brasil, for the execution of the Internet Brasil Program, of the Ministry of Communications. The winner was chosen, after the presentation of the three finalists, through a vote of around 200 IT managers from public bodies present at the HDI-EXPOGOV event.
“For us (RNP), this award is very important, mainly because the choice was made by professionals who work in other government agencies, so they know the difficulties and importance of executing this type of project and the size of the impact on the citizen. It is yet another recognition that RNP is in the right direction in the execution of public policies, in this case, in partnership with MCom, sponsor of the Internet Brasil Program”, highlighted the Solutions manager and responsible for the program on the RNP side, Hélder Vitorino. In addition to relying on the innovation of the neutral chip, with no connection to the operator, which facilitates the exchange remotely if necessary, the program recently started to rely on ChatGPT in user service.
The presentation of Internet Brasil to the public at the event – who were also judges for the award – was the responsibility of RNP's Integrated Service manager, Francisco Júnior.
“We had eight minutes and, in that time, we tackled the problem first: today almost everyone has a cell phone and access to knowledge, but this is not a reality throughout Brazil, in the interior of cities, this is not seen. More than five thousand municipalities are below the poverty line, so this is our focus in Internet Brasil: these 22 million students and their families who are in CadÚnico", informed Francisco.
"Another point we also addressed was the issue of new technology used from the neutral chip, as we know that our country, with continental dimensions, encounters a lot of problems with regard to mobile telephony coverage. So, we are taking digital inclusion, connecting people with their dreams and bringing innovation. The idea is to connect these people with knowledge and with other services and social actions of the government and, mainly, connect them with pedagogical access, with literature, with information that will directly contribute to the education of the future in Brazil”, he said.
Internet Brazil aims to bring connectivity and digital inclusion to students and their families through the free distribution of cell phone chips and data packages. The benefit is intended for basic education students from the public school network who are members of low-income families enrolled in the Single Registry for Social Programs (CadÚnico).
