The Minister of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications, Gilberto Kassab, and the governor of Pernambuco, Paulo Câmara, signed a technical cooperation agreement for expansion, development, and provision of high quality connectivity in state institutions. The agreement includes services, training and innovations in the use of advanced networks, integrated to RNP's backbone.

Pernambuco participates in the Research and Education Community Networks (Redecomep), an initiative of MCTIC coordinated by RNP, through the Network Icon (Rede Ícone, in Portuguese). The goal of the federal government is to implement high-speed networks in the metropolitan regions of the country served by the RNP Points of Presence. The adopted model is based on the implantation of an own fiber optic infrastructure directed to the institutions of research and higher education and in the formation of consortiums between the participating institutions.
