Note of condolence: passing of Jorge Vicente Lopes da Silva (ITC Renato Archer)
The Board of Directors and the Executive Board, on behalf of the entire RNP team, mourn the passing of professor Jorge Vicente Lopes da Silva, former director of the Renato Archer Information Technology Center, this Monday, 6/10/2024.
Jorge Vicente had been a researcher at CTI Renato Archer since 1988, where he developed work in the areas of industrial automation and robotics, with a focus on 3D printing technology. He also served as Director of the same institution from 2019 to 2024.
Under his leadership, the first 3D printing machines were implemented and developed in Brazil, consolidating an important research group that has dozens of collaborators across the country.
He was the founder of the Center for Tridimensional Technologies (NT3D/ITC), which under his coordination, collaborated in the training of human resources, supporting undergraduate, postgraduate and post-doctoral work, with more than 200 theses supported from national and international universities.
One of his RD&I programs, ProMed, played a crucial role in supporting major Brazilian hospitals in adopting this technology, especially in collaborations with the Unified Health System (SUS).
To Jorge Vicente's family, we express our deep condolences and celebrate his example.
