R&D projects and the submarine cable between Brazil and Europe are the highlights of the event
On November 17 and 18, at Itamaraty Palace in Brasília, takes place the event Brazil-European Union Information Society Dialogue. In its eighth edition in the Brazilian capital, the meeting focuses on research and development aspects, policies and regulation in the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) industry.
Among the subjects selected for the workshop is the initiative 3rd BR-EU Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Coordinated Call, managed in the country by the Department of Information Technology Policies (Secretaria de Políticas de Informática - Sepin) of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) and the Brazilian National Research and Educational Network (Rede Nacional de Ensino e Pesquisa - RNP), through the Research and Development Center in Information and Communication Technology.
“The focal point of this cooperation is to promote partnerships in R&D in ICT resulting in benefits both for Brazil and for the European partners. The whole process happens jointly, from the selection of themes, defined in workshops held throughout the year, until the selection processes, contracting and monitoring of projects, which we got to know better this afternoon,” said the director of Research and Development Center in Information and Communication Technology, Lisandro Granville.
“The participation of the Brazilian National Research and Educational Network on the 8th Brazil-European Union Dialogue is an opportunity to show the public an example of successful partnership. Over the past few years, the collaboration in the ICT industry has been one of the few to develop. In addition, the opportunity to promote and conduct dialogues on issues of national interest shows the government’s trust and recognition of the work that the Brazilian National Research and Educational Network has been performing. Moreover, it is expected that the fruits of said trust contribute to create lasting partnerships in pursuit of technological, social and economic development both for Brazil and Europe,” says Projects Coordinator from Research and Development Center in Information and Communication Technology, Wanderson Paim.
In the cooperation realm, the Brazilian National Research and Educational Network also monitors the strategic construction design of the submarine cable between Lisbon, Portugal, and Fortaleza, Brazil. In a workshop held on Tuesday, the company responsible for building the interconnection, EllaLink, with the participation of Telebras and IslaLink, presented the new submarine cable contours, which apart from Fortaleza, Ceará, will be brought to Santos, São Paulo.
This cable should have part of its capacity dedicated to education and research, under the Bellla (Building Europe Link to Latin America) project. “The cable will arrive in Brazil and we should increase the capacity of RedCLARA between the country and the other partners in South America,” predicts the director of Research and Development at the Brazilian National Research and Educational Network, Michael Stanton.
