At the opening of the 5th Science, Technology and Innovation Conference (ST&I) in the Southern Region, held on April 25, a technical cooperation agreement (TCA) was signed between the National Research and Education Network (RNP) and the government of the State of Paraná. The cooperation aims to bring high-speed connectivity to the interior of the state, in order to serve the teaching and research community.  

The aim of the partnership is to carry out joint projects. One of them is Infovia Paraná, which connects all state and federal universities, as well as research institutes in the state, using optical fiber. 

Integration of Paraná with the world 

This partnership with Paraná is part of a larger RNP action: the Conecta e Capacita program, which aims to expand the scope, quality and security of connectivity for education and research in the country. In addition to the information highways in 18 states, the capacity of the national research network, the Ipê network, will be expanded, National Data Centers (CND) will be implemented and a very high-performance and secure service will be established in the e-Ciência Network. A new national cybersecurity model for the RNP System is also being developed on this infrastructure.     

“We are not just talking about Paraná, we are talking about global integration. This is a collaboration in communication for education and research that will certainly benefit future generations. Therefore, it is a privilege for RNP to be able to launch this new milestone in the internalization of the Brazilian academic network”, highlights Nelson Simões, RNP’s general director. 

The expectation is that this cooperation will result in significant advancement of scientific and technological development in the region, especially considering the context of technological acceleration and the growing importance of collaboration between public and private institutions.
