RNP and Ufes participate in a partnership, which aims at creation of an international Environment network research environment
The international partnership includes RNP and Ufes from the Brazilian side and HEAnet and Geánt from the European side.
RNP, together with Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo (Ufes), Trinity College Dublin (TCD/Ireland), the national education and research network of Ireland HEAnet and the European research and education network Geánt, is participating in collaboration started in May this year, with the purpose to integrate computer and network resources aiming to create an international environment that enables research in new-generation network based on the RARE testbed (Router for Academia Research and Education).
At first, RARE of TCD in Ireland has been interconnected to Ufes to enable the researchers from the Software Defined Networks Study Center of the Brazilian university to make international experiments integrating technologies, such as NFV and SDN/P4. After that phase, the objective is to interconnect resources of the RNP SDN Multi-layer laboratory, a project that develops an orchestration system aimed at transfer of high volumes of data in a totally programmable network, using open technologies.
Use cases have also been studied to enable use of the Bella BR-EU submarine cable.
“This interconnection, made feasible by RNP, will enable the Brazilian researchers to have access to state-of-art equipment and experimentation environment in international scale for research in new generation networks”, the Cyber-Infrastructure R&D manager of RNP Marcos Schwarz explains.
In addition to the technical objectives of collaboration in international research in a broad area, which are very beneficial, there is the challenge and the opportunity to obtain financing for the performance of bigger experiences
