After the release of the notice in July, the Brazilian National Research and Educational Network (RNP) announced the eight Working Groups for the 2014-2015 period. Four new groups have been selected for the first phase and four other WGs of the 2013-2014 period have been chosen to continue in the second phase.  

Through the Working Groups program, RNP works in partnership with the scientific community following the management model of open innovation. A notice is annually published so that national research groups can submit proposals of new services and products in the areas of networks and distributed applications, which are of interest to RNP users. 

In the first phase, lasting one year, the groups build and demonstrate a prototype of a new product or service to RNP. In the second phase, the prototype should be developed aiming at implementing a pilot in the academic network.  

Among the proposals received through the notice released on 07/14/14, the following have been selected:

Phase 1

• Computational Environment for Handling Incidents with Denial-of-Service       Attacks (GT-ACTIONS)

• Mechanisms for an Early Warning System (GT-EWS)
  Coordinator/institution: Daniel Macêdo Batista/ University of São Paulo (Universidade de São Paulo - USP).
• Adaptable, scalable, and interoperable system for video communication, from mobile devices to 4K devices (GT-Multipresença)
  Coordinator/institution: Valter Roesler / Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul - UFRGS).
• eduroam and Handover on OpenFlow Networks (GT-EduFlow)
  Coordinator/institution: Kelvin Lopes Dias / Federal University of Pernambuco (Universidade Federal de Pernambuco - UFPE).

Phase 2

• IaaS Platform Distributed to eScience (GT-PID)
  Coordinator/institution: Luís Henrique Maciel Kosmalski Costa / Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro - UFRJ).
• Testbed for smart spaces (GT-TeI)
  Coordinator/institution: Silvana Rossetto / Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro - UFRJ).
• Collection and analysis of user experience (GT-CoLisEUm)
  Coordinator/institution: Juergen Rochol / Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul - UFRGS).
• IP television service with global reach (GT-IpêTeVê).
  Coordinator/institution: Marcelo Moreno / Federal University of Juiz de Fora (Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora - UFJF).

Products and services created within the Working Groups can integrate the organization's portfolio, being available to institution clients.
