RNP attends annual conference of academic networks in Africa
Representatives of Magic (Middleware for Collaborative Applications and Virtual Global Communities) and Tandem projects met on March 28 in Ivory Coast (Africa) to discuss possible synergies between them and their deliveries, as well as promoting intercontinental cooperation and Development of global research infrastructures.
The deputy director of the Higher School of Networks (ESR) of RNP, Leandro Guimarães, coordinates one of Magic's work packages (WP) and participated in the event, emphasizing how has been the work of dissemination and implementation of eduroam service and federations Of identity (in Brazil, example of CAFe) by the world, main purpose of its action. “Our WP has met almost every goal and most of the deliveries have been made. We have worked very closely with the countries of Africa, to help them in the dissemination of services”, explained Guimarães.
Magic is a global collaborative project designed to improve the ability of researchers from around the world to collaborate among each other, including on the African continent. Tandem aims to create favorable conditions for West African and Central African Education and Research Network, Wacren, ensuring its integration into the global community, as well as its long-term sustainability. Therefore, the importance of these projects talk and potentiate their deliveries. Both are funded by the European Commission and are scheduled for completion in April, at which time the final results will be presented.
This meeting between the projects was part of the programming of the annual conference of academic networks of Central and Western Africa (Wacren 2017), held between March 30 and 31 in Cote d'Ivoire. The event brought together scientists, researchers, network managers, e-learning and collaboration experts, identity management experts and connectivity providers and equipment from across Africa and the rest of the world to discuss the importance of the quality of higher education and research.
According to Leandro Guimarães, the proximity of the countries of Latin America is well-regarded by African citizens. “The participation of representatives of Latin American countries serves as an example for Africa. It is possible to show that we can perform several actions, even with few resources”, he said.
