RNP formalizes participation in the Brazil Blockchain Network
The National Education and Research Network (RNP) is now officially part of the Blockchain Brazil Network (RBB), a national initiative to create a public blockchain infrastructure. Launched on 5/30, the project is the result of a partnership between the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) and the Federal Audit Court (TCU), and has the participation of other organizations in the public ecosystem.
Blockchain Brazil Network intends to mobilize efforts to ensure more transparency of public data, in addition to security and reliability. The network will be public, non-profit and nationwide in scope, and will connect participating institutions with the aim of supporting the use of blockchain technology in public interest solutions.
Having in its portfolio solutions such as the Digital Diploma, which, since 2020, allows registering the digital version of academic diplomas on blockchain networks, RNP wants to actively participate in the Blockchain Brazil Network to facilitate the application of this technology in the areas of research and education.
RNP's participation also contributes to increasing the network's reliability, according to the deputy director of e-Science and Cyberinfrastructure, Leandro Ciuffo. With RBB, every public interest solution that uses the network will have its data distributed in the computational resources of the project participants, who have the function of validating transactions, which contributes to the decentralization and integrity of information.
“It is important to have a diversity of institutions. The more diversified the participating institutions, the better, the lower the concentration of power. RNP's participation, in addition to contributing to discussions in the universe of research and teaching and being a gateway to applications developed by universities and research centers, also adds to this goal of decentralization”, he explains.
In the coming months, the Blockchain Brazil Network will enter the construction phase of the regulations and governance of the network. After this process, the network will begin the pre-production process. The forecast is that, in approximately one year, the network will be available to the community.
