RNP lecture at WTICIFES, in Maranhão
From the 19th to the 22nd of July, RNP participated in the Information and Communication Technology Workshop of the Federal Institutions of Higher Education in Brazil (WTICIFES), in São Luís, Maranhão. The meeting is promoted by the College of Communication Technology Managers (CGTIC) of the Federal Institutions of Higher Education (IFES) and is on the agenda of managers of IFES in Brazil. RNP was at the event with lectures and a stand for the NasNuvens and FileSender services, in addition to sponsoring the event.
WTICIFES is an opportunity for managers to update themselves on trends and new market solutions. The event also promotes networking and the exchange of experiences, after all, dialogue between partner entities is very valuable for the implementation of innovative ideas in this niche, since educational institutions have very similar realities.
The program included lectures by RNP representatives. On the 20th, Cristiane Rodrigues and Reinaldo Vieira presented “Ransomware attacks and backup service” and, on the 21st, Cristiane Rodrigues gave a lecture on “The importance of security maturity assessment”.
The lecture “Ransomware Attacks and Backup Service” explained the process of a ransomware attack to managers. This is a type of network attack in which cybercriminals steal information, hold it as “hostage”, and ask for a financial ransom for the delivery of this data. The forms of entry, according to Cristiane, are diverse, but the most common is related to the human factor: opening phishing emails through addresses that are acquired from data leaks.
The CAIS coordinator also spoke about preventive controls, such as, for example, the implementation of the multiple authentication factor (MAF), periodically reviewing access – which concerns, for example, the removal of access by former employees –, management of administrative access, as well as plans such as disaster recovery and ransomware attack communication, related to business continuity.
Reinaldo Vieira ended the lecture with information about the importance of backup in security incidents. The Senior Analyst of the Directorate of Services and Solutions presented the backup service that RNP provides for institutions that want a guarantee of availability and integrity of information in situations involving a security incident.
On the 21st, the second day of the event, Cristiane gave a lecture on security maturity assessment. During the speech, she gave tips and guidelines for ICT managers at educational institutions to carry out their maturity assessments.
Assessments are important for the areas of an organization to understand security as a business aggregator, for people to see how security improves their work, for managers to understand how to direct resources, among other reasons.
According to Cristiane, participating in events with managers is an opportunity for RNP to learn about the reality of educational institutions in Brazil with regard to safety and technology. “At events like WTICIFES, we can share our experiences so that they can serve as learning opportunities and can guide institutions in their actions related to security and technological enhancement. We also took the opportunity to identify the needs of RNP's customers and show how our services and solutions can support them", said the coordinator.
RNP also has an event aimed at the academic community, the RNP Forum, which takes place in August this year. Registration is open, sign up.
