RNP is selected for Female Leadership training in STEM areas
In the gender equity debate, much has been reflected on the still insufficient female presence in areas related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Nowadays, the acronym STEAM is already adopted, including Arts education as part of the teaching of exact sciences and opening space for interdisciplinarity.
To contribute to an increasingly female presence in STEM careers, the National Education and Research Network (RNP) was selected as a British Council partner institution for the training Women in Tech – Inclusive Leadership.
The objective is to replicate the training for women who seek to develop their leadership skills and advance their careers in areas related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
“From the beginning of training in schools, we should encourage and demystify these topics as not suitable for women. In our culture, we still carry ingrained prejudices that these skills are not for women and those who venture down this path are discriminated against”, explains Iara Machado, Director of Research, Development and Innovation at RNP.
About the Women in Tech Program
The Women in Tech – Inclusive Leadership program was created in 2021 by the British Council after a series of trainings developed in 2019 and 2020 as part of the Women in Science Program and in partnership with the DICE Program (Developing Inclusive and Creative Economies).
The training consists of a virtual training course containing 12 modules for women looking to develop their leadership skills and advance their careers in areas related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
In all, 15 partner institutions were selected, including universities, NGOs, civil society organizations, science museums, research support institutions, academic institutions, small and medium-sized technology companies in the technology sector, duly registered in accordance with Brazilian legislation.
