RNP will hold online seminar on DoS attacks evolution
On Thursday (April 27), from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the RNP Security Incident Response Center (CAIS) will hold several online seminars on information security, with the purpose of Education and Security raising awareness. The first topic chosen is the evolution of Denial of Service (DoS).
These cyber-attacks are malicious activities that can make a service and/or system unavailable because of the overhead of computing resources. Generally, they occur when a target network or application is overloaded by a volume of traffic or abnormal processing, intentionally caused to undermine the availability of a Denial of Service (DoS) service.
In the lecture, the security analyst of CAIS/RNP, Rildo Souza, will present the main vulnerabilities that allow the occurrence of such attacks, as in the cases of Recursive DNS, NetBios, SSDP, NTP and open SNMP. “In 2016, according to information from Arbor Networks, the largest denial-of-service attack has been identified to date, which has exceeded 900GB of impact”, says Rildo.
The speaker will also comment on the SeVen tool, developed by Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB) with the support of RNP to identify DDoS attacks in the application layer and mitigate them in real time.
The broadcasting of the online seminar is open to the public. Access the link: conferenciaweb.rnp.br/webconf/seminarios-seguranca.
