Today the friends from RNP honor the life and celebrate the memory of the researcher and professor Luiz Fernando Gomes Soares for his great contribution to Brazil, to computing and to our institution.

For RNP, Luiz was a member of the Administration Board during its first term and also a member of the Management Contract’s Evaluation Committee, contributing especially with the corporate governance in its foundations and with the definition of strategic guidelines for our work for several years.

For the computing industry, he was a researcher who has played a huge part in the creation of innovative solutions for systems, bringing them to the society for the benefit of a wider community, as he did with the formulation of the digital TV system, Ginga, and its interactive applications. He was also a reference in the teaching of computer networks, having taught many students and young researchers, many of whom came to cooperate with him over the years, with active participation in national and international projects.

For the country, he was a citizen with a heart and intelligence of the size of his people and who deserves to be remembered for his commitment to social inclusion and scientific and technological development.
